The Iranian Designer Dress that Never Made it to the Oscar 2012 !

Iranian dress for Red Carpet, our primary design for Ms. Leila Hatami

We proudly announce that B&R Design, Bahar and Reza, had the pleasure of producing a dress for Ms. Layla Hatami for The Oscars 2012 Red Carpet. We designed the dress based on Iranian forms, but unfortunately it never made it to the Red Carpet despite the preliminary approval [from Ms. Hatami].

Considering Iran’s Islamic restrictions, it is not an easy job to produce a dress to have both beauty and necessary (ruled) cover-up.

After months of research and consultation, and with the approval of Ms. Hatami, we designed a dress which not only had characteristics of traditional Iranian forms, but also fulfilled existing restrictions from the Iranian government.

We believe it is appropriate to give a brief overview of the design and production of the dress to our readers.
This dress included a long jacket with small buttons in front and patterned lining that was adopted from jacket worn by Kurdish women from the Kermanshah Province. The jacket’s outer layer and the cover of the buttons were stitched with silk silver thread that gave a splendid attraction to the fabric which was also made of silk.

The lining, which was hand painted by Iranian artists, matched color-wise with traditional Iranian tiles. The edges of jacket’s collar and the buttons’ covering were tapestry.

The clothing to be worn underneath the jacket includes a chiffon dress with a long pleated skirt.  The skirt was designed to have a rotation movement, while moving on the red carpet, to give more magnificence to the dress.  To cover the head, a turban was designed to not hide the beauty of the dress, while covering the hair.
